Which companies represent a minority as far as the law is concerned?

Minority companies must be at least 51% operated and controlled by minorities. For purposes of the NMSDC program, a member of a minority group is an individual who is at least 25% Asian, Black, Hispanic or Native American.

In Florida alone, between 170,445 and 212,000 companies registered to enjoy the benefits of being minority-owned businesses.

Benefits for Minority Businesses:

  1. Have a sense of community.
  2. Landing contracts that previously seemed unlikely.
  3. Opening up marketing opportunities.
  4. Obtaining access to government contracts.

Access and eligibility for government contracts is a huge benefit of certification. Most government entities at the federal, state, and local levels require that at least part of the business be targeted at women and minorities. You must still be qualified, of course, but this certification is a great advantage.

  1. Opening more opportunities.
  2. Putting your business in front of large corporations.
  3. Moving away from other companies.

As it turns out, Brazilians, for lack of knowledge or pride, did not qualify or sought this advantage.
