Last week, talking to an experienced American lawyer I asked: What about the American elections. Your answer gives a good tone to the vision of a good part of the country’s population: nothing, tomorrow (election day) I have to get up, work and pay my bills. What we saw in the last election showed that something is changing in this situation.

A real consultant understands that in order to give advice and make a plan for the company, in addition to up-to-date management knowledge, he needs to know and understand macroeconomics and for this, he has to have an accurate analysis of local and international politics. Even a small pastry depends on it.

Let’s make some considerations about these recent elections and their consequences:

President Trump says he won because he held the Senate and there was not the expected “blue wave” that was being expected.

With Senate control going on with the appointment of conservative federal judges, but after eight years of liberal judges’ nominations by President Obama, Trump’s 6 would still be out to balance the bills. Otherwise, the President can do little to maintain his agenda.

The Democrats taking the House of Representatives have already prepared more than 80 research actions on the president and his administration, which should occupy the entire agenda of Congress, leaving little to legislative action itself. Let’s remember that the budget goes there !!!

As a result, one expects more of a legislative bulge than something really interesting in terms of laws that modify or interest the population. In this sense, if there is not a change in the Democratic cadre, they are, in fact, helping in the re-election of Trump to the detriment of the American interest.

With the election of Democrats further removed from the center, we will be distancing ourselves from the votes of the more conservative independents and Democrats.
In this way we will have a disfigured Republican party that will be “Trumpista” and a leftist Democratic party, that moves away from its center bases.

On the other hand, this confrontation will lessen the bargaining power of the president’s international agreements, paralyzing or at least slowing down the agenda of a strong US and exporter.

In terms of internal growth, there should be no major hiccup as tax cuts and the consequent attraction of new foreign capital, in addition to the repatriation of large US corporations, will sustain growth and employment.

Potentially, the lowering of taxes for the middle class is expected to be the major mainstay of growth and a key player in the 2020 elections.

The main concern is the normal cycle of growth correction that occurs on average every 7 years and expected to occur at the maximum in 2019, but with the new facts regarding taxes, debureaucratization and external market outlook, this correction is postponed “sine die”
